With the weather warming up, the mosquitoes are beginning to show themselves a bit more. I am one of those people that have the blood that mosquitoes can smell from miles around. They can find me anywhere! And lucky me (note the sarcasm), I’m also one of those people that has a reaction to the mosquito saliva. So, I get ginormous bites that itch like crazy and last two weeks instead of a few days. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve woken myself up by scratching at a bite while I’m sleeping.
But, thanks to Pinterest, those long itchy nights are over! I found a pin two summers ago that changed everything! It described rubbing the inside of a banana peel directly on a mosquito bite. It said it would take the itch away completely. I was skeptical, but tried it out of desperation one night. I’m happy to say it worked with flying colors!! Not only did it relieve the itching almost immediately, it also makes it so the bite goes away sooner. I rarely need to reapply the banana rub either. It generally just takes one time. I’ve been using this method for two years now and am happy to say it hasn’t failed me yet.
This is awesome for kids as there are no chemicals you need to worry about. Unless they are allergic to bananas, of course.
Feeling worried that you’ll need to have bananas on hand every day, in case of a random bite? Nope! Just take your leftover peels and place them in a zip-lock baggie- then freeze. Anytime you need a piece, just break it off, use, and compost the leftover. It’s simple! It’s healthy! And it totally works!
